Momentum and 4-block jumps in Minecraft parkour
Momentum is the speed you build before a jump, and also the space a map gives you to build it: players count it in blocks, 1bm for one block of run-up (1.6 metres) and 2bm for two (2.6 metres). Sprinting makes you 30% faster.
Jumps are measured in blocks too. A 4-block jump (written 4b) is 3.4 metres of real distance, because you are 0.6 metres wide.
The movement described here is Java Edition's; Bedrock's differs in places.
How to do it
- Sprinting, hold W and jump on the same tick (the jam timing): the basic way to start building momentum.
- On a single block of run-up, a simple way to clear 4 blocks: start from the back of the block, jam without sprinting, then press sprint one tick later and keep holding jump.

Join play.parkour.gg on Java or Bedrock (how to join), then type a map's command to go straight to it. Where a map allows it, /fp practice lets you set your own checkpoints to train one jump; a finish in practice mode doesn't count.
